Course Layout

The course was laid out in a cloverleaf design. There was a central transition area at Eben Fine Park, and teams followed loops out from this main TA.

Inline Skating
The race started with a quick inline skate loop around Eben Fine Park. Only one skater from each team was required to do this loop, and each team was given the map and passport once they were done. Teams then were required to plot the CPs using the provided UTM plotter and the coordinates provided on the passport. From there, they skated an 8.5 mile loop through Boulder on paved bike paths.

Trekking/Climbing
A 7 mile trek loop followed, which included a rock climbing section on Flagstaff mountain.

Mountain Biking
Teams then transitioned to mountain bikes, where they climbed up Boulder Canyon. At the Betasso Connector trailhead, they were given the option to try the Mountain Bike Skills Test. This consisted of a 30-foot section of trail that had to be ridden "clean" without the rider putting his or her foot down. Any team that successfully completed this test was awarded a 10 minute time bonus. Teams then continued on bikes to complete a loop at Betasso Preserve, then returned to Eben Fine Park for the final section: whitewater tubing.

Whitewater Tubing
After transitioning to tubing (or bodyboarding) gear, teams ran 1/4 mile up the creek path, jumped in the water, and floated back down to Eben Fine Park and the finish. Heavy rains preceding the race date made for high water levels and an exciting whitewater section.
